Balkan Bump
Balkan Bump, led by Will Magid, merges electronic music with global influences, featuring Balkan brass, Middle Eastern sounds, and American hip hop. The project varies live from solo acts to a 12-piece band, incorporating instruments like the sitar, saz, oud, and trumpet. This fusion has earned global recognition, appearing at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lightning In A Bottle, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
The debut single “Aymo” with Gramatik and Talib Kweli marked Balkan Bump’s introduction, followed by a successful EP released on Gramatik’s Lowtemp label. Collaborations have included Beats Antique, Moon Hooch, CloZee, and The Gift Of Gab, with features in Billboard Magazine, NPR, and The San Francisco Chronicle.
Will Magid’s solo endeavors have seen him work with Bonobo, Erykah Badu, and Solomon Burke, leading various jazz and global music groups. His notable projects include the “Alligator Spacewalk” album and the “Lunar Conquest Suite.” Magid’s music has supported campaigns for Warner Brothers, Uber, and GoPro, showcasing his broad appeal.
Educated in Ethnomusicology at UCLA, Magid’s work as both Balkan Bump and a solo artist highlights his commitment to blending musical cultures and creating unique soundscapes that resonate worldwide.
