Image….Waking up to a solar heated mug of organic tea, tunes scream from the wind powered portable radio hanging on a tree nearby while you plug your cell phone into a portable solar unit to charge for the day. The neighbor across the way sips down his morning smoothie mixed with the power of his wind up bicycle blender and a group of children run by collecting recyclables to make art with.
…You Smile

Welcome to a Greener LUCIDITY camping experience.

As you adventure through the Campgrounds, solar powered lanterns and LED lights from fellow campers lead you to your DIY tent where your new best friend is grubbing down on some sautéed veggies and turkey dogs that he’s left cooking in his solar oven. You’re a bit sweaty from dancing all night so you jump under your solar heated reusable shower with biodegradable shampoo, grab a beer from your thermoelectric cooler, and get cozy in your brother’s “hand me down” sleeping bag.

Lucidity and the Greenest Campsite contest are actively working to make this the greenest festival around. Green your campsite and win tons of prizes, free gear from our sponsors, and even tickets for the fall Lucidity festival planned for October. Be creative, inventive, and use your sustainable skill to impress our judges as they peruse the grounds. Make the camp your own and let your green imagination run wild.

At the most essential level, think consciously about what you bring onto the grounds, separate your trash from recyclables, take your waste with you when you leave, and avoid leaving litter around your site. Bring plastic garbage bags and compo stable bags to handle your waste, and take it all with you, or contribute your pre-sorted food scraps to our compost station. Lets work together to keep our campsite beautiful and enjoy the benefits of a “leave no trace” mentality.

Winners will be chosen based on the following criteria:

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle:
- How clean is your campsite?
- Are you recycling or composting?
- Are you using biodegradable or reusable plates, cups, utensils?

Eco-Friendly Gear:
- What kind of tent and sleeping bag are you using? Is it new or used? Made with eco-friendly material?
- What kind of stoves or cooking equipment are you using?
- What kind of lights shine in your camp?
- Are you using tarp or more sustainable materials?

Power:
- How are you providing energy in your camp – solar/batteries? Are you using reusable batteries?

Transportation:
- How did you get to the festival? Did you carpool or use public transportation?
- Are you offsetting your journey?

Grab Bag:
- Are you using solar lights/lanterns, hand powered green radio/products, alt gear?

Creativity/Style:
- How did you make your camp different than all the others? DIY techniques? Can you show us your innovative tents, energy use, solar showers, or cooking practices? Show your style! What’s your decor all about?

Some tips for having the greenest campsite:

- Leave all glass bottles at home.
- Avoid disposable cups, paper, and Styrofoam alternatives
- Avoid bringing items that you know will be thrown away
- Used gear: old tents, blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags- don’t buy new gear just for this festival- borrow from your friends or family, buy used gear, or rent.
