As we begin to transition from winter to spring, excitement is beginning to build for the festival we all know and love.
Those who have attended Lucidity in past years are well aware that the festival has previously been held in late April, when temperatures are cool and a sprinkle of rain can be expected here and there. With Lucidity being held at the end of June this year, we invite a new element to the party: the simmering summer heat.
When preparing for Lucidity this year, it’s essential to prepare for weather conditions that may be unfamiliar to the festival. But fear not! We’ve got you covered with some essential tips to help you stay cool and hydrated while enjoying the music and festivities we know and love.
Before you even get to the festival, make sure you are taking necessary steps to prepare for the elements. Make some extra effort to drink enough water and stay super hydrated leading up to the festival.
Also, try and get some exercise out in the sun. You will be doing a lot of walking and dancing out in the sun at Lucidity, so might as well start early and get your body ready. With the sun beating down and hours of walking and dancing throughout the night and day, it’s easy to become dehydrated.
Make sure to drink plenty of water and electrolytes throughout the day, starting the moment you wake up.
The first thing I do in the morning at Lucidity, is mix a Liquid IV (electrolyte powder) with water and drink it down. This is a quick way to hydrate and get some electrolytes the moment you wake up. I also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle with you on your adventures around the festival. Lucidity typically provides water stations, so take advantage of them and refill your bottle regularly.
When it comes to festival fashion, comfort should always be a priority, especially in hot weather. Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing that allows for circulation and helps to keep you cool. Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s powerful rays.
I recommend bringing a scarf or pashmina to have with you throughout the day. Not only can it cover your shoulders and protect you from sunburn, but you can get it wet periodically throughout the day, and drape it around you to cool off quickly.
In addition to water, you can come prepared with refreshing snacks and treats to beat the heat.
When preparing for summer festivals, my friends and I freeze Capri-Suns or popsicles and pack them in our cooler to keep food and drinks cool. Then, when we head to the stage, we will bring a small cooler with cold drinks, juicy fruits like watermelon or grapes, and frozen treats to help stay cool from the inside out.
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the festival, but remember to pace yourself, especially in hot weather. Take breaks between sets to rest and recharge, and listen to your body’s signals. If you start to feel overheated or fatigued, find a shaded area, hydrate, and take it easy until you feel ready to continue.
Make sure you are listening to your body and balancing hydration and de-hydration.
You may want to partake in a few afternoon cocktails as you enjoy some music. And by all means, go ahead. Sun and exercise can dry you out quickly, and a good time can quickly turn into a not so good time when you are dehydrated.
Remember to prioritize your health and well-being so that you can make the most of this unforgettable experience. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and have a fantastic time dancing the day and night away!
