This year, I am bringing my significant other to Lucidity for their first festival ever.
I’ve been lucky enough to bring many of my loved ones to their first festival, and from those experiences, I’ve learned that there are a few key things to keep in mind to make sure that they get the most out of the experience.
For those who have never been to a festival before, you could be in for an eye opening experience. This opportunity to change my partner’s perspective and open his mind is very exciting, but it comes with a sense of responsibility as well.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
When someone arrives at their first festival, there can be a lot of stimulation and excitement all at once. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the party and want to go all-in on night one. Be sure to remind them that this is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s all about conserving energy to be able to coast through the weekend.
Encourage Solo Adventures
One of the best things about Lucidity is the vast array of activities and things to discover. My favorite festival moments are waking up early, grabbing a coffee, and heading off on my own to explore what the festival has to offer. Encourage your loved one to explore on their own a little, see where their heart takes them and what piques their interest. Exploring by yourself is the best avenue for self-exploration!
Do what feels right
It’s natural to get excited when bringing someone to their first festival. You want to show them everything and introduce them to all your favorite parts of the experience. It’s important to recognize that people need to go at their own pace.
This means that even though you’re ready to go hit the silent disco at midnight, it doesn’t mean they want to or have the energy to. Offer the option, but never make anyone do anything they aren’t up to do. Having a good time means doing what feels right in the moment— and that may be different for everyone!
Check in
Lastly, make sure you check in regularly. Ask them what they are enjoying, what their favorite part has been so far, and what they want to see more of! That will give you a good sense of what excites them and makes them feel connected to the experience while allowing you the opportunity to help make their experience even better.
Lucidity has something for everyone, and can be a transformative experience for those who fully embrace it. Encourage your loved one to open their mind and participate as much as they can— their heart and soul will thank them!
You could also gift your special human, I don’t know, a ticket to Lucidity?! Maybe you and your lover take advantage of the Lover’s Sale going on right now!
