Max Stiers

Max began his bodywork journey at McKinnon Body Therapy Center (Oakland) in 2013, learning techniques in both eastern and western traditions. He is strongly influenced by the healing systems of the orient, incorporating acupressure and shiatsu into his practice. Max specializes in deep tissue and myofascial release, and recently started working in sports and recovery modalities. He is committed to his clients’ well-being and respects the energetic exchange that takes place during a bodywork session, both as giver and receiver. Max is a firm believer in the body’s ability to heal, and maintains his own self-care through yoga, acupuncture, sound healing, massage, connecting with nature, and self-expression through creative mediums like dance and music. He considers massage a type of “spiritual grooming” akin to the way that our close primate cousins behave, but tends to get lost in our modern human world. Bodywork is one component of a resilient and healthy existence, and a vital one that often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Max lives in Los Angeles and maintains a private practice, Third Eye Bodywork.

Healing Description

Max approaches his work with gentle and compassionate yet confident touch, preferring to coax the body into releasing tension and pain. This is especially important with deep work, and opposed to muscling into the body in attempt to force results. Client trust is infinitely more important than anticipated outcomes or claims to know what’s best for them better than they do. Much like conversation, listening is just as if not more important than talking.
